About me

Hey there! I'm Gianluca, a photography and videography enthusiast currently pursuing my Bachelor of Media Arts at the University of the Fraser Valley.

Behind the lens, I'm all about capturing those one-of-a-kind moments that tell your unique story. But here's my secret sauce: while I'm snapping those beautiful shots, I'm also making sure you're having an absolute blast! No stiff poses or awkward smiles here—just genuine moments filled with laughter and fun.

What sets me apart isn't just technical skill (though I've got that too!); it's the experience I create. My clients consistently tell me that working with me feels like hanging out with a friend who happens to have a really nice camera. I believe the best photos and videos come when you're comfortable, having fun, and truly being yourself.

Whether it's graduation photos that show your personality, event coverage that captures the energy of the room, or creative projects that push boundaries, I bring the perfect mix of professionalism and playfulness to every shoot.

Let's create something amazing together—and have a great time doing it!

Open Lab 1

For Open Lab1, we were prompted to use Lightroom Classic's basic correction to enhance our work. I was lucky that I was able to do a photoshoot a couple weeks before this class, and I just edited the photos that I took for that photoshoot using Lightroom's correction features.

Class Activity 1

Class Activity 1 got us to become more comfortable with our camera and think more creatively. So we had to do a couple of photos.

  1. Photo with lowest F-stop of a subject in focus to produce shallow depth of field.

  2. Photo with mid-range F-stop (between 7-9) with focus on object and background

  3. Photo with large F-stop (abover 11) with focus on background to produce large depth of field

  4. Photo with long exposure meaning, a small shutter speed setting, any setting which is below 1/20 to as low as 30" to produce motion blur

  5. Photo with fast shutter speed, above 1/100 to 1/1000 to capture a still frame of a fast moving object.

All photos are ordered 1 through 5.

Class Activity 2

For class activity two, we were asked to respond to the following prompts.

1. Shallow Depth of Field + Portraiture of a person

2. Symmetry + Rule of Thirds

3. Large Depth of Field + Documenting a lot of details

4. Motion Blur

5. Fast Shutter Speed to Capture Details

6. Perspective Shots

7. Geometry + Shapes

8. Natural movements around you

9. Perspective + Reflections around you

10. An experimental shot of your choice (Black and White)

All photos are ordered 1 through 10. No submission for prompt 2.

Assignment 1: Colour Harmony

Assignment 1 got us to look at the color wheel and select a couple of photos. These photos were meant to have complex and abstract pairings to capture complex ingredients that are visible in the environment around us. We were encouraged to be creative and choose color pairings that would work.

Below are my submissions.

Class Activity 3

Class Activity 3 introduced lighting to us and the differences between hard, soft, and ambient lighting, as well as complementary colors. These are the prompts that we were asked to respond to, and below are my submissions.

  1. Indoor light photo portraits (Soft)

  2. Indoor light photo portraits (Hard)

  3. Complimentary colour pairing portraits shot

  4. Complimentary colour landscape shots

  5. Hard Light Portraits Outside

  6. Soft Light Portraits Outside

  7. A silhouette shot of your choice

I did not submit a photo for #7.

Class Activity 4

For class activity 4, we were playing around with white balance and what a good white balance versus what a bad white balance looks like. And we had to take pictures and respond to the prompts below.

  • Perfect White Balance photos taken indoors

  • Perfect White Balance photos taken outdoors

  • Overly bluish photos indoor

  • Overly Orangish photos outdoors

  • A counter-intuitive white balance settings that somehow works for you in any setting of your choice

Class Activity 6

Class Activity 6 got us to flex on our camera operating skills. We were prompted with the prompts below.

  1. Let's get a micro/macro shot

  2. Let's get a widest shot of landscape your lens will allow

  3. Let's get a closest shot of the same landscape your lens will zoom into

  4. Let's get a clean close-up with subject and object both in focus

  5. Let's get a close up shot of a specific subject

  6. Let's get a micro/macro shot of that same specific subject

I did not include a submission for prompt 1.

Assignment 2

Assignment 2 asked us to submit three original photos which reflect us as artists and the influence that we've gotten from studying certain artists and photographers of our choice. For me, I'm very motivated by Peter McKinnon and by Banff Photography. So I decided to choose them.

Assignment 3

Assignment 3 asked us to select five pictures that provided a clear core message of some of the prompts that were included in a slideshow.

The core message that I selected was documenting life and moments. For me, documenting life and moments is really important. There's never going to be another chance for you to live a moment again. Quite literally, once the moment's gone, it's gone. You can never relive it. Every moment is so unique that you cannot relive it. And that's what's so important to me.
